The Alabama State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) offers personalized, unbiased counseling and assistance to Medicare recipients and their families. The statewide program, which is locally administered by the United Way Area Agency on Aging, can help with questions or concerns about Medicare coverage, benefits, premiums and coinsurance. SHIP also offers information and advice on Medicare Advantage Plans, such as an HMO or PPO, as well as Medicare Prescription Drug coverage (Part D), and can assist with complaints and appeals with regard to coverage.
