The Walk With Ease program, developed by the Arthritis Foundation, is offered in two different six-week formats: self-directed and in-person groups. Choose the way you’d like to participate, lace up your shoes and take a big step toward feeling better — and better overall health!
UWAAA is pleased to offer the Arthritis Foundation’s Walk With Ease program, which is designed to help adults with arthritis better manage their pain — and can be equally beneficial for adults without arthritis who simply want to make walking a regular habit. Shown to reduce pain and increase balance and walking pace, Walk With Ease provides participants with the information and tools they need to develop a safe exercise routine that fits their unique needs and goals.
Who can participate:
- Any Jefferson County resident age 60 or older
- Must have the ability to stand for 10 minutes without increased pain
What you will do:
- Set personalized goals.
- Walk three times per week at your own pace for 10 to 35 minutes each time.
- Learn safe and effective stretching and strengthening exercises.
Self-Directed
Self-directed participants use the Walk With Ease guidebook to complete the six-week program on their own. Online assistance from a leader is available upon request. The participant guidebook is provided free of charge and includes all the tools you need to:
- Develop a walking plan that will meet your needs.
- Stay motivated.
- Manage pain.
- Learn to exercise safely.
Call 1-800-AGE-LINE to request your participant guidebook.
In-Person Groups
In-person Walk With Ease groups meet three times a week for six weeks to discuss topics of interest and walk together with their group leader(s). COVID-19 safety measures, including facemasks and social distancing, are in effect.
