If you like helping seniors one-on-one, you may want to become a SHIP volunteer.
The State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), part of the United Way Area Agency on Aging (UWAAA) of Jefferson County, is seeking friendly volunteers to work individually with seniors to help them understand their Medicare options. The SHIP program provides free and factual information and assistance to Medicare beneficiaries, their families and caregivers. As a SHIP Volunteer you’ll get free, easy-to-understand training so you can guide seniors through their Medicare coverage options.
UWAAA is conducting an information session to give you an idea of what this volunteer opportunity entails, and to help you decide if being a SHIP volunteer is right for you. The information session will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at United Way of Central Alabama, 3600 8th Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35222. To register, go to uwca.org/events. If you have questions, please call 1-800-AGE-LINE.
SHIP volunteers are especially needed for the Medicare Open Enrollment
period from October to December, but we provide Medicare coverage
information to seniors all year long.
