Consider becoming an Ombudsman Volunteer for residents of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.
The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program, part of the United Way Area Agency on Aging (UWAAA) of Jefferson County, not only monitors the quality of care provided at long-term care facilities and advocates on behalf of residents of those facilities, but also recruits and trains volunteers who visit assigned nursing home residents on a bi-weekly basis. Volunteers provide a voice for nursing home residents who have no one else to speak on their behalf, and they help educate residents about their rights.
UWAAA will host an information session about the Ombudsman program and the responsibilities of volunteers on Friday, August 18th from 10 to 11 a.m. at United Way of Central Alabama, 3600 8th Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35222. Refreshments provided.
To register, go to uwca.org/events.
This session will help you decide if being an Ombudsman Volunteer is right for you. If you have questions, please call 1-800-AGE-LINE.
